A message from Mal, your 2021/22 President

Welcome to the LGBT+ Association! We represent the LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans +) students of Durham University, including those who are questioning. We encourage anyone to get involved!

Our work covers three main areas: social, welfare and campaigns. After a challenging year with few opportunities to meet each other in person, we are excited to get back on track and keep Durham’s community vibrant, alive, and connected.

Our socials will provide an open, safe space for students to meet. During term time we host a range of socials, from crafts and board games to karaoke and club nights. Allies are welcome, so if you are worried of coming alone, you can bring non-LGBT+ friends. We will also be putting on online events (such as quizzes and crafts sessions) to improve accessibility and facilitate connection year round.

Our welfare team work hard to provide confidential listening services through drop-ins, which will be accessible in-person and via zoom. Throughout the year, sexual health supplies (condoms, dental dams etc.) and gender affirming supplies (binders and more) will be made accessible for anyone who wants them. To get in contact with our welfare team to find out more or request supplies, please email welfare.lgbta@durham.ac.uk.

Campaigns this year will focus on sexual health, providing information and resources that are relevant and accessible to LGBT+ folks. We will also be continuing to work on the long-running gender neutral bathrooms and gender neutral dress codes campaigns.

LGBT+ Book Club

LGBT+ Book Club is back!

Come along to meet new people and discuss LGBT+ books. This is a very relaxed and welcoming club and we would definitely recommend you get yourself added to the secret group, so you can see the reading list and vote for the most interesting sounding books each month!

Also a huge thank you to Skeena Williamson for getting the Book Club up and running in academic year 2019/20 and making it such a success.
