ORDERS OF BUSINESS

Reports

Mal

  • Nothing new on the Osbourne's/bouncer front since last time

  • Met with Jonah and the other presidents to discuss goals and how the SU can help

  • Advising on the sexual health campaign (which looks really good so S/O Caity)

  • Looking into last year's gender neutral bathrooms campaign in the background but it's slow going for now

  • have had a couple of people reaching out regarding their department's EDI team and how we can cooperate

  • Jonah has planned an 'associations week' so we will need to make a start on the checklist for that (sent in the exec chat a few weeks ago but I'll resend asap). The list includes a Spotify playlist, which might be fun to outsource to the community by taking suggestions on our insta story? Definitely not a public playlist that everyone can add too thought there'd be too much of a risk of homophobes/transphobes adding nasty stuff

Keir

  • headed to the SU assembly tomorrow evening and he is going to report about the bouncers situation in Osbournes, the sexual health event, cabaret event with the dst, and the collab with history society to celebrate pride month

  • if there’s anything else anyone wants reported, please do forward it on to Keir

  • Phoebe brought up the issues of potholes in the south bailey’s area, this is a problem with navigating the area and they mentioned how physically disabled individuals will be disproportionately affected by the issue, they asked if it was possible to bring it up at the DSU Assembly

  • Keir agreed to bring the issue to the meeting and the association will also get into contact with SwDA

Grace’s hust for the Social Secretary position

  • pronouns are she/hers/its

  • have a great deal in exp in running events; risk assessments, diverse range of scenarios, personality and comfort with discussing important aspects of org and high pressure sit gained from over 3 years of exp in the theater world would give me key skills for room bookings and planning events

  • pride self on three things, practicality, imagination, collab leadership style

  • thought out proposals that might arise in all matters, comfortable to working in all situations

  • coe together quite well and with running for small group scoutings and familiar with managing the practical aspects of it

  • questions: do you have exp with SU and running events with the durham SU

  • frankly no, but I do have experience with complicated systems that i’m new to and learning new systems is something that I am confident that I can do

Ellie’s hust for the Assistant Campaigns Officer Position

  • she/her first year, excited to getting into the durham lgbt scene, excited to see how the development in osbournes will go

  • main reason wanted to run is that while i have had amazing experience in the lgbt community but i have also had bad ones, thus want to give people support in areas like coming out, mental health, from a non-accepting community, etc

  • see the importance in having a little joke and fun, and pride in our history is rich

  • one of the first out people in sch and the foundational members, involved in talks and social events, experience fundraising and working with children from a diverse range of backgrounds

  • also have exp working in tutoring which can help w

  • qn: do you have any campaigns you especially want to run?

  • campaign to help people who come from non-accepting grounds, also sex positivity in the LGBT+ community to continue the campaign that is already on-going and help out with it

  • qn: within the limits of the systems you are, how would you best help with the culture change for the people who are coming into durham e.g. feeling lonely?

  • one of the things can help is having a coffee meeting to talk about your experience, things like the playlist sounds like a good idea, recommending extra resources, films and watch and catch up

  • qn: encourage more talks about healthy sex, would it be inclusive to disabled people?

  • yes, inclusive and the whole point of lgbt+ is to be inclusive, want to be inclusive, as someone without a disability personally would look to resources or people who do and things to learn from

  • not just physical disability but also neurodivergency

Lesbian Rep

  • Grace husted for this position

  • elected successfully by caucus

Post-grad and Mature Students Rep

  • Stephen husted for this position

  • elected successfully by caucus

Working Student Rep

  • Grace husted for this position

  • elected successfully by caucus

LBGT+ ball

  • Keir and Alicia are trying to organize a LGBT+ Ball for next term

  • in order to do this, we might need to put together a group of people for an exec in order to sort out things like entertainment and work with other societies

  • this point was brought up today as a heads up, and anyone interested on being on the exec can reach out if they wish to, more info will be put out later

  • will need to talk about finances with Kirsty
